Kylian Mbappe insisted Paris Saint-Germain will bounce back in the second leg and the tie was far from over after his side suffered a 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in their last 16 Champions League tie. Paris-born and PSG-raised Kingsley Coman scored the only goal as Bayern beat PSG in the 2020 Champions League final and was again the only scorer as the German champions progressed to the quarter-finals.

PSG, who have lost five games in all competitions this season, held firm in the first half but were eventually beaten and unable to defend despite Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Lionel Messi being on the pitch at the end. Mbappe did enough to make Bayern feel "uncomfortable" on the night, twice putting the ball into the back of the net, only for each attempt to be ruled out for offside. While Mbappe was a comfortable few yards wide with the first strike, the second call came after an agonizing VAR decision that left the home crowd deflated but gave them hope for a must-win revenge.

Mbappe's return to fitness is PSG's best hope ahead of the second leg on March 8 at the Allianz Arena. "I wasn't supposed to play, but I wanted to help my teammates, bring some energy. We tried everything. I couldn't do more today," he said.

Mbappe reckons PSG can turn things around in Munich if they are at full strength. "The important thing is that all our players are healthy, that everyone eats well, sleeps well. We saw that when we are all together we are able to play forward, play attacking football and that they were not well," he said.
